How Roami is being designed

This guide describes the agreed product direction and the decisions still being explored. These are planned capabilities, not a list of released features.

Updated November 6, 2026

How does a place light up?

With permission, the app is intended to inspect selected photos or changes in the accessible photo library when opened. A photo with usable location and capture-date information can be matched to a place. Photos without usable coordinates need an explanation rather than a guessed location. An IP address does not identify where an old photo was taken.

Which date belongs to a stamp?

Keep two dates: the earliest eligible photo capture date for a visit, and the time the stamp was actually awarded. Importing an older photo can move the remembered visit date earlier; it should not pretend that a newly created stamp existed years ago.

How many people have collected it?

The proposed public number counts distinct collectors of each badge design. Repeated imports, extra photos and repeat visits do not count the same person again. Public totals do not require publishing a collector’s photographs or itinerary. The online counting service is not yet implemented.

Can one place have several stamps?

Yes. A place can hold a collection of several illustrated designs. The confirmed direction is that each new visit can reveal one design, with preference for a design the person does not already own. A soft reveal animation should make the moment feel like discovering a keepsake.

Can people create a place or badge?

Community place and badge creation is part of the planned direction. Publishing needs rules for attribution, accessible locations, review, reporting and removal. Creating a public pin must not automatically disclose a personal photo or private location history.

Which mystery-collection rules are still open?

Historical photos restore footprints and grant one system default commemorative stamp for each historical place; they do not provide multiple retrospective draws. Other designs may be previewed and require a new outing and new visit photos. How visits are grouped and what happens after a set is complete are still being discussed. Grouping photos from one place on the same calendar day is a proposal, not a confirmed rule. No paid random draws, rarity odds or trading economy have been agreed.

What is available today?

This public documentation site is available, and a documentation entry is connected in the development app build; the app is not publicly released. The app, photo importer, map unlocking, collection counts, community publishing and mystery collections remain in development. There is no public download or purchase flow on this site.
